About Dig It® Handwear
The inception of Dig It® Handwear began back in 2007 when founders Wendy Johannson and Claudia Harvey began searching for functional and fashionable gardening/utility gloves that provided more protection for their nails.
Both avid gardeners and “do-it-yourselfers”, their love of the outdoors and all things relating to gardening were often dampened by the deterioration of their hands, fingers and manicures from a day in the yard.
After searching coast to coast, they researched what was available on the market and realized that there wasn’t a product for sale that addressed their needs. So, armed with the determination to provide women with the protection they need for their hands and manicures, they designed their first product, Dig It® Handwear, a glove more precisely suited to women.
The collaborative design process included industrial designers, glove manufacturers, nail technicians, salon owners and of course, gardeners. They were able to marry their commitment to all things green and stylish by making a product made from recycled materials. All packaging is made of 100% recycled material and recyclable.
In November 2009 Wendy and Claudia made "a deal with the Dragon" and were pleased to partner with Kevin O'Leary after sucessfully airing on the CBC's Dragon's Den. Kevin co-founded SoftKey Software Products in Toronto, Canada in 1986. After a decade in growth Kevin sold SoftKey to the Mattel Toy Company and is currently the Chairman of O’Leary Funds the Manager of the publically traded family of O’Leary Global Equity and Income Funds. He also serves on numerous Boards and committees. He is the co-host of the Lang O’Leary Exchange, ABC Television’s “Shark Tank”, as well as CBC’s venture capital reality TV program “Dragon’s Den”.
